My Work is Child's Play!

What a great day!

7th Grade Girls: We shared our “Happy Happenings” with topics ranging from PE, Christmas, bobcats and 3 foot holes! Then we discussed a quote that Mr. Wood (URI Grad Student) left for us: “Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up on your right to be wrong because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life.” A fabulous discussion followed about grades and the drive for A’s……more work needs to be done in this area!

6th Grade Boys: Were excited to celebrate the football accomplishments of our members and then decided to split up and do different things. One group went with Mr. Wood to the gym and the other group had quite the interesting game with YuGiOh cards….Looks like we will be working on fair play in the near future.

5th Grade Girls: Did a much better job with their “Happy Happenings” from the week – everyone participated! We finished the self-expression activity called “Thoughts to Treasure and had a wonderful discussion about different cultures and holiday celebrations. There were some really nice moments of kindness shown today…I was impressed!

8th Grade Boys: Another interesting conversation today! With topics ranging from how Fanta soda was invented by the Nazis to remakes of old movies. Believe it or not the boys decided to go back to their childhood and played with Legos and CandyLand!

Social Thinking Grade 5: Such a lively bunch…..fabulous group today! Our “What did you say? What did you mean?” statement today was: “He bent over backwards to make sure his friend had a good time at the party”. This helps our kids understand metaphors and idioms. The group also practiced our “Big Three” – Vocal Tone, Body Language and Facial Expression by “Bamboozling” to me how they were feeling! It was fantastic! They are getting better at the game, but still need lots of practice! Finally, we started a new game called “Play Fair!” which focuses on sportsmanship and identifying expected and unexpected behaviors during games and competitions.
