Here are some helpful hints to help your child with his/ her note taking skills:

Be organized. Space bulleted notes. Try outline or power notes (as reviewed in class).

Taking notes is like using a sifter. As you read carefully stop and ask yourself: 1. Do I understand what I am reading? and 2. What is the most important point? IF YOU CANNOT ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS go back and read again! IF you can understand the main idea and key points record them in your notes.

Use abbreviations and symbols to be more efficient. Highlight, circle, underline important words and phrases! Use color!
