Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the new school year at Mystic Middle School! I am very much looking forward to getting to know your child as he/ she begins grade 7 Social Studies class.

This letter is a brief introduction to me and to my class.

Grade 7 Social Studies begins with a unit on physical geography and related topics. In October we will transition to the study of 19^th C. U.S. history. One very important component of my Social Studies class is my website, which can be accessed through the MMS site or directly at http://folio.stonington.org/lhartnett/ .

Homework will be listed on the homework page every day. In addition, there are numerous links for students to access. Some of these links will be used in conjunction with homework and extension activities and some of the links can be helpful to reinforce concepts learned in class. If your child does not have access to a computer please let me know; I will always have alternative assignments that don’t require internet access. When we are doing research and internet is required, computers will be available for use at school. The website will also have “hidden” vocabulary words on occasion. Students can earn stamps for their auction cards when they come in the next day with the word, its meaning and a contextual sentence. Sometimes “mind-stretchers” related to class will also be posted the night before on the website!

Also, I firmly believe that in order to ensure your child’s success and confidence we need to communicate effectively. Toward that end I will send out monthly  “E-Newsletters” to let you know what is going on in class and any upcoming projects, units etc. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RECEIVING THE “E-NEWSLETTER” SEND ME AN EMAIL.
