News From The Students Day 4

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
I had a lot of fun in D.C. It was really cool there. The thing I liked most was the Museum of Natural History. I liked the Dinosaur Exhibit. I thought the exhibit wood always be cool when I first heard about is and it was. I had lots of fun in the exhibit.

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
The museum I found most interesting and emotional was the holocaust museum. I think that this museum affected me the most because when you see all the skinny bodies you can’t believe how the people were treated and how the Nazis cared so little about them. I think one of the most powerful things in the museum was the shoes of all the people that had been killed. At the end there was a movie playing that showed three or four survivors and they each told their story. One thing that really shocked me was the story that a lady told about how they were finally being liberated and were going to be free and she went to go tell the kid that she had been taken care of but she found her dead. Then she must have realized that even though they were leaving the ghettos and concentration camps the hatred towards them wasn’t going to end. They would still be put through so much.
Victoria Cullen

Dear Mrs.Bitting,
Out of all the interesting museums that I visited, I think the Holocaust Museum was very interesting, sad, and made me emotional. All the exhibits in the museum hit me pretty hard, especially when I saw all of the shoes of people that were killed. For example, when I saw the videos of the Jews in concentration camps, I was shocked how they were so skinny- they were just skin and bones. I found it really sad how the Nazis just didn’t even care about what they were doing to their fellow humans.
Chelsea Wheeler

Dear Mrs.Bitting,
I really enjoyed the holocaust museum. I thought this museum was really cool because it almost felt like you were in the holocaust. Actually living when the holocaust was going on, it was really emotional inside the museum. I saw a bunch of people crying and just realizing what it was like for the people who lived in the holocaust.            Sincerely, Katerina Barker

The most substantial moment on this trip for me was visiting the holocaust museum. Every photo I saw sent chills all throughout my body. Every empty face was alive at one point and was brutally murdered. All of them had names. All of them had a story. Now they are dead because some of them looked different. Who will remember them when the survivors are gone? It is up to us to remember them now. We must not and shall not forget what the Nazis did. The way they destroyed countless people to “free their country.” The way they used their lifeless bodies for “experiments.” It makes you wonder why. Why would someone want to annihilate an entire race because they have brown eyes? Or because they worship a god the Germans don’t like? They burned the dead bodies like twigs in a furnace. Men can be dark, but there is always light.                                Dale George

My favorite place to go was Arlington National Cemetery. This was because I want to be in the Marines also I wanted to go to section 60 to see the graves from the wars we are fighting right now. Also liked going to the Vietnam Memorial. Liked going there because I got to see how war could take a lot of lives.
Ryan Johnson

One of the things I really enjoyed was the play Sheer Madness at the Kennedy Center. It was a murder mystery, but it was hilarious! The actors were awesome and we all loved it. All of us were dressed up and our school was even mentioned by the actors at one point in the play, along with several other schools that were here. We even got a chance to help the actors solve the mystery, giving them clues to help them see which actor was guilty. We had a great time.
Drew Solomon

My favorite museum today was probably the Air & Space museum. I really enjoyed learning about space travel in particular. When I saw the Apollo space capsule, I was in complete shock. I would never be able to be that cramped for even an hour. It was amazing though, all of the technology behind the space missions. In my opinion it was crazy how precise calculations had to be for a successful mission. I want to even try to go back another day this week. I’m really enjoying Washington D.C. so far.
-Ethan Schroeder

My favorite experience in Washington DC was Shear Madness. This is because it was probably the funniest play I have ever seen and to me that am what a play should be. Another reason I liked it was because we got to interact with it too. My second favorite part was either the Washington monument or seeing John McCain and even though we did not get to get to go up in the monument seeing it was awesome because I never thought I would see it in my life and the same reason for seeing John McCain because even though I don’t really like him I still didn’t think I would even see him at all in person either.
Austin Myers

Yesterday, my group went to the museum of American History, one of the Smithsonian Museums. It was really interesting to see all the pop-culture items that the museum had. They even had Kermit the frog! It surprised me that the museum had an original Muppet. They also had the ruby slippers used in The Wizard of Oz. I also enjoyed the war parts of the museum. They had everything from the Revolutionary War to Iraq. It was really cool to learn about all the technology that was developed to fuel wars.
We also saw an awesome play called Sheer Madness. It was about a barbershop, except that rather than cutting hair, somebody was cutting people. There was a murder, and the police had to uncover who had done it, with help from the audience. In the end it turned out that whoever the most people voted for would be the one who did it. The play itself was hilarious, with dozens of pop-culture references that mean that they keep the show up to date. They talked about everything from Sarah Palin to Balloon Boy.
All in all I really enjoyed this trip.                        Sincerely,                                            Zach Bazydlo

Yesterday we went to a play and it was funny, it was about a murder and it was cool. Also went to a mall.
Dion Small

When visiting the museum of natural history I saw all the different dinosaurs that died millions of years ago. My reaction was that I am glad that they are extinct today because if they weren’t I think that the human race would be extinct and that wouldn’t be good.
Brandon Tassias

My favorite experience in Washington DC was Shear Madness. This is because it was probably the funniest play I have ever seen and to me that am what a play should be. The coolest and best thing I saw was the dinosaur exhibit with the big skeletons. That was the one thing I wanted to see when I came. They were really big and cool. I liked everything, but this was the best.
Dan Bockowski

Today was an amazing day to be in our Nation’s capital of Washington D.C. My favorite part of the day was when we went up to the top of the Washington Monument and got to see four different views of about 25 miles around Washington and beyond.  When we first got into the monument, after passing through security, we stood waiting for the elevator to take us up to the top. While we were waiting I felt so excited that I would be able to see the spectacular views. When the elevator arrived I was very excited and immediately jumped in.  On our way up the tour guide told us that the Washington Monument was built with no steel or metal supports holding it up. Finally we were there, at the top of 555ft.  As I looked out of the first window my breath was swept away; the view for me was spectacular, it overlooked the Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin, and the Potomac River along with part of the city.  The second window was a view of the Lincoln and World War II Memorials and the Reflecting pool, that was a view never to be forgotten. The next thing I saw was the backyard of the White House and a large chunk of the city.  The final view I witnessed was my favorite or very close; I looked down upon the National Mall and the Capital Building, it was spectacular!  The short time we spent at the top of the tallest structure in the city was one I will never forget (at least not for a very long time)!

Today is our last full day of D.C: [
I had so much fun today! My group and I got to go to so many places like the Space Museum, the Holocaust Museum, and the Capital. I really liked the Air and Space museum. We got to wondering by are self with our group and we got to test the displays and walk around. Right now we are on the bus heading for the dance. I am really excited… I love dances!

My favorite part so far in Washington D.C. is probably the Air and Space Museum, part of the Smithsonian. Mr. George was somewhat a “tour guide”, and was very good. He knew a lot about all of the planes and rockets and explained everything. I liked the museum because all of the planes taught us about the wars. They did this because they were the planes that were used in the wars. So far we saw most of the museums and saw the Laying of the Wreath Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. All of the guards were scary perfect. They took perfect steps, they had perfect outfits, and they had perfected everything. So far, everything we have done was awesome.

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
Yesterday we went to the Museum of American History. I really liked that one because of all the real things it had from history like the hat that Abraham Lincoln was wearing the night he was assassinated. I thought it was really cool to have that stuff there because it helped me to imagine what it was like when it was happening. Some other things that I liked like that were the ruby slippers that are from The Wizard of Oz a    nod the dresses from the first ladies. Thanks for helping me to go on this trip and see all these great things!
Sincerely,

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
On our trip to Washington, D.C. we were able to visit so many amazing and historical sights, such as the Washington & Lincoln memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, the American History Museum and many other places. But, I think out of all of the places we visited, the Holocaust Museum was my absolute favorite.
After reading Daniel’s Story in class, it was so interesting to see different points of reference and making connections with the book. I think after visiting the museum I have a better understanding of The Holocaust but I also have many more questions. Also, seeing real pictures, videos, clothes, letters, and other artifacts was so amazing to me; it made me kind of realize that The Holocaust really happened and it’s not just a chapter in a textbook.
Sincerely,
Rachel McGinn

My favorite place to go was Arlington National Cemetery. This was because I want to be in the Marines also I wanted to go to section 60 to see the graves from the wars we are fighting right now. Also liked going to the Vietnam Memorial. Liked going there because I got to see how war can take a lot of lives.

Today my group and I went to the Natural History Museum. We saw an Imax movie about the ocean. We got to see different animals in it, such as dolphins, sharks, and more. It was also about how humans over fish and how the fish and animals survive. The movie was in 3D so it was fun to see the animals pop out at you. An exhibit I enjoyed was the Dinosaur exhibit. I liked seeing all of the fossils and different animals we don’t have today. It was very interesting. I am having a lot of fun and I am excited to see the play tonight!
-Taylor Hackney

Hey Mrs.Bitting having a great time in dc. The most interesting thing that I thought was important was the holocaust museum. I had a really hard time going through it. The part that I found most interesting was when we saw actual people and how skinny they got. I also thought that it was a gruesome and frightening. Other than that I also thought everything else was cool.

Rebecca James

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
This week I have seen a lot of stuff. It has been fun and interesting.    My favorite part was going to the White House. I liked this the most because it looks a lot different than on TV, the Internet or movies. To me, it looks a lot smaller and I thought there would be much more security around it.
Sincerely,
Ryan Francis
Dear Mrs.Bitting

I have had a lot of fun at Washington D.C. but my favorite place was the Holocaust museum. This was my favorite place because looking and reading all the different facts were interesting; for example one fact about World War 2 is that about 11 million people died in world war 2, 1 million American soldiers, 3 million polish and 6 million Jews died in world war 2. Also in the museum there were a lot of dramatic pictures of what the Germans did killing humans and doing experiments with their bodies/organs. I also have a lot of questions about the museum too. One of my questions is why did they hate the Jews the most in Europe? Another one was why did the Jews do those weird experiments with their organs /bodies. This shows why I liked the holocaust museum was my favorite place in Washington D.C.
Sincerely.
Adrian D.

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
Throughout this whole trip I have seen some amazing stuff. My group and I have gone to the museum o American history and natural history. But my favorite museum we went to was the air and space museum. It was filled with huge airplanes and rockets. I learned many things while walking through the many exhibits of the museum. One thing that I learned was that the Boeing 747 was the first ever-commercial airplane. There was a place in the museum where the front of the Boeing 747 was where you could walk in and look in the plane. While I was looking around I saw that there definitely more than one hundred buttons where the pilots flew the plane. It took me by surprise of how many buttons those pilots need in order to safely fly the plane to its destination. That was definitely my favorite part of the museum.
Sincerely,
Nick Ryan

Jasmine Smith
One thing interesting that I saw and learned about was when my group went to the capital building. This was interesting to me because as we were there we saw John McCann. We also got to go in this room called the whisper room. It was called that because from one side of the room you can hear the muffled voices of the people on the other side of the room. One last thing that really interested me was that I’m the middle of the building you can see a painting of the whole U.S.A history from the landing of Columbus to the first fight with the right brothers.

After going to the Holocaust Museum I felt very sad. I can’t believe that’s people would kill others just because they were Jews. All the pictures and videos mad me feel bad for all the people that were a live during that time.   –Bridget

My favorite part about today was going to the national history museum because I had fun learning about our history and things I never knew about. For example I learned about our countries flags and the history behind them.      –Shenice McCarthy

My favorite part of the trip was the Shear Madness play at the Kennedy Center. I thought the play was very funny and entertaining. My favorite part of the play was when the actors asked the audience for their opinion in who killed Isabelle.
-Caitlyn Shaw

My favorite place we have been to so far is probably the Air and Space Museum. We learned a lot about the airplanes that were used for transportation and wars. Mr. George, Dale’s dad, was somewhat a tour guide. He walked with us around and explained
Everything we walked by. I liked this museum because we learned how the planes evolved from the Write Brother’s plane to unmanned aircrafts. We also learned about how the planes contributed to the wars. When we first got to D.C, we went to a place called Arlington National Cemetery. There were so many graves of all of the war veterans. We also saw the Laying of the Wreath Ceremony where Dale George and Emily Cassata laid the wreath. The guards there are scary perfect even though they have to be. That was another one of my favorite places.
Zach Fister

Well I would have to say my favorite part o the trip was. Going to the American history museum and going to the price of freedom exhibit    and seeing all of the American wars we fought through the years. And seeing the tech get better through out the years we have been in. And I liked that part because I have a great interest in the history of America.
Patrick O’Rourke

My group and I went to the Washington Monument. The monument was built of different types of stone. If you go to the top of the monument, you can see for a couple of miles. My favorite part was being able to see the White House. The monument is the largest structure not supported by steel or concrete.
Tiffany

Dear Mrs. Bitting,

My favorite museum was the holocaust one. It was my favorite because I’ve learned about it in years but nothing put me into prospective like that did. Something I learned in the museum was how many towns were completely ridden of Jewish people; there were so many towns on the wall I probably would loose track if I tried to count them
Sincerely,
Jake Miner

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
During the day we were doing whatever our group wanted to do. So we had decided to go to the museum of natural history because in my group’s opinion it sounded the coolest. I think my favorite part of the museum was the part of all was the exhibit of all the mammals! I thought the best part of that exhibit was the beaver exhibit. Even though the beaver wasn’t alive it gave you a chance to see the underneath of the beaver dam. I thought it was cool because right beside the cage was a description of the beaver dam and how warm inside. I also thought it was the best part in the exhibit because it was also the most detailed part in the exhibit. I learned that many animals with tails and know how to climb use their tails to balance themselves so they don’t fall down the tree.
That is where my group went and visited at our group’s free time too.    Sincerely,
Kyle S.

Great news!

Hey guys! Great news- Pawcatuck showed up at the dance-a-thon. We had the final 2 for both boys and girls. For the girls it was a race to the death between Holly and Ashley. Close call- but Ashley was the winner. For the boys, it came down to Riley ( otherwise known as MJ) and Adrian. Adrian took it with a few fast moves. We couldn’t have been more proud of the kids. It was great.

The chaperones showed up as well for their dance competition. Both Mrs. E and I shared our killer moves, as well as Mr. Bokowski and Mrs. Hultgren.  Although there was no said winner- Mrs. E and I know we took the award hands down.

My flip died half way through the dance- so Mrs. E took video on her Iphone. When we get back we will get it up on the webpage. We need Mr. Agins to help us with that.

Great day- great times- miss everyone at PMS. Peace out!

News From Day 2

Posted by: teisenbeis | October 22, 2009 | 1 Comment |

Today was another incredible day! The students had a blast touring the city and visiting the sites. One of the assignments the students had for the trip included the students blogging about their day. Check back nightly for your child’s blog.

Again, thank you for sharing your child with us!

Mrs. E
Today (Wednesday October 21st) was a very interesting day. We did a lot of different things like go to museums and a monument. We also did a lot of walking.
We went to two different museums. Like the Natural History Museum and the Smithsonian. What my favorite one was the Smithsonian because it had a lot of interesting things. Like the hissing cockroach. It was about as long as two Oreo cookies (length wise). It looked really scary. We were able to touch it but I didn’t want to. The other museum was pretty interesting I didn’t like it as much as the other one.
Mrs.E said that some people would like to see stuff other than the museums so she asked us if we would like to go to the Vietnam Monument. It took a long time to walk my feet were killing me. But it was nice.

Tia LaFrance-Boyce

Dear Mrs. Bitting,
Today my group and I went to a lot of places. We went to the National Archives and the magnificent documents that our great country made for our freedom, We went to the Air and Space Museum where we saw some war crafts, planes and space ship duplicates, We went to the top of the Washington monument where we could see into the next state and we went to the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. By the time we went to the other Smithsonian museums, our legs pained horribly but it was worth it. What learned was that walking hurts and that there is a lot of history in this awesome capital of the United States. I also learned in the museum of natural history that there is so many parts of our history that I didn’t know would end up in a museum of history like Julia Child. She had an exhibit dedicated to her. In the Washington Monument I learned that the monument stands 500 ft high and that you can see into the next state! I can’t wait for what we still have to learn.
Holly Gienau

Today I went to the News Museum. We went to a 4d show. Its 3d but they blow air, water, and your chair moves. It’s the best 3d show I’ve ever been to. The show was about the history making events in new. It talks about the first live broadcast of a war. It was during World War 2 in London during the blitzing by the Nazi. It also talked about women who were the first women to be an undercover detective for a story in the paper. She had to go to an insane asylum and experience how those women lived and how they were treated. She had to go and see if the rumors that it was a horrible place were true. It really felt like you were with them. They blew wind in your hair and one time they misted water in your face. They chairs moved so it felt like you were on a roller coaster. I thought it was one of the coolest things that I have ever done. It felt like you could reach out and touch the people.
Eliza Woodman

So far on this trip my favorite thing would have to be going to the News Museum. My favorite part of it was when we learned about all the horrible things people have done. There was one part when there were a few people; I think two and they would drive around and shoot random people. I thought it was interesting because along with the story they had a model car to show how they did it without being caught. They also showed the people who were shot and if they died or not. It was really sad because the people had no reason to get hurt or killed; yet they were. The whole museum was just really interesting and fun to learn about. –Katherine Archer

Hi Mrs. Bitting. This trip is awesome so far. I have seen a lot of things like different mammals and insects. But most of all diamonds. Lots and lots of them. That’s one thing love to see.
The Museum Of Natural History was the best place I have ever been too. One thing I enjoyed while I was in there was the see the Hope Diamond. The hope diamond is the largest diamond in the world. Its 45 carats and a ½.It was amazing, I loved it .It was the first chance I ever got to see anything like it. I even almost broke a leg just going to see it. That’s how excited I was. And I had the best time of my life.
Sincerely,
Ashley Facey

Dear Mrs.Bitting,
My group and I went to the Smithsonian museum. The things that I learned that there was a lot of presidents, and a lot of first ladies. I thought that the dresses were really pretty. I also think that the museum was really cool. I think that because I liked the animal exhibit. I thought that it was really cool because I like all the animals. Can’t wait to see the rest of the trip.
Caitlin Creedon- Booth

Today was a very fun day because we did so many fun things. First we stopped at the White House and there were guards everywhere! I even spotted one on the roof and I waved to him and he waved back. The only weird thing was that after he waved to me a bunch of other guards pulled out their large binoculars and looked at me through them. Do you know why they already have Christmas trees on the roof? I have no clue why, and I thought that was peculiar. One of my absolute favorite stops was the Washington Monument because we had tickets to go to the top floor! While we were waiting a nice policeman on a horse stopped by us so we could pet his horse Hermes. Did you know that it takes months to years to train them? The view from the top was spectacular even though I was scared by the actual height that we were at! We also saw the White House and they were having a party and I was sad that I wasn’t invited. We have decided to have a party at the hotel and invite Bo but not the rest of the Obamas. Also a worker at the Washington Monument said he was going to eat us at the top, but that wasn’t true. While my group was walking around we came upon the Department of Agriculture. I told a worker who was standing outside the building to have a fun day at work but he just smiled and mumbled under his breath. This trip is very fun so far and I hope tomorrow is just as fun as today!

I believe that my best experience in D.C. was at the National museum of Natural History. There were many exhibits about marine biology. This was exciting because when I grow up I want to be a marine biologist. I saw many different kinds of fish and plants. It really inspired me. It was like I was in a sea of vast knowledge that was just waiting for me to eat up. It was extremely intriguing. I could have stood there all day. That museum was excellent.

Today I went to the news museum. I was very excited when we went to the 4d theater. The theater was 4d because it was 3d but there was moving seats and air that would blow at you to make you feel as if you were in that scene. I was feeling really nervous at one point when there was a bullet that came whizzing at you. It was kind of scary because it felt like you were going to get hit. There was also a place where they talked about the major events in news history. They talked about a bombing that happened in Oklahoma that destroyed a whole office building. It was only a small car bomb that is the scary part. They also showed how newscasts have changed over the years. First it was broadcasted through radio, then through TV then through computer. This was a very interesting museum and I was glad I got to experience it. I think this was an amazing museum and everyone should get to experience it.

So far in our trip my favorite thing has to be going to the Arlington Cemetery. Even though it can be quite depressing it was my favorite place because even though it shows how many people died serving our country it also shows how many people were willing to risk their life to save ours. That’s my main reason why I loved that place so much. Lindsey Planchon

The most fun part of the trip so far would have to be going to Arlington because we not only saw over 300000 graves, we saw one of the most sacred ceremonies in the cemetery. We were also able to see our classmates have an experience of a lifetime

Bonjour!
Today was such a fun day! First we went to the National Museum of American history. It was really awesome! There were Dorothy slippers from the wizard of oz and dresses that previous first ladies have worn. Then we went to the Washington monument. IT WAS AMAZING! We went to the 500th floor. It was an incredible feeling. You could see 25 miles away in all directions! We even got to see the white house! (They were having a party in their front lawn with a moon bounce!) We got to see so much and it was all so beautiful. Then we went to the national air and space museum where we saw and got to play with a flight stimulator! Except Megan crashed hers. Now we’re on the bus going back to our hotel for a little bit.
I’ll be home soon =)

Today was a long day with a lot of walking. We went to Fords Theater and saw where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. I really liked seeing that. The next museum that we went to was the natural history where I saw a lady putting together a dinosaur and she was wearing gloves and she explained why she was wearing them and they were because of the oil on her hands and what the bones have been touched by.  I liked seeing the red ruby shoes at the American history museum. Today was fun but I thought too much walking. I can’t wait until tomorrow

Today I went to the museum of National History and the whole purpose of going there was to see the Hope Diamond! When we entered the museum we saw the 3-D video and for most of our stay all the different types of animals that we saw on display fascinated us. I was lucky because my favorite animal (Moose) was one of the first ones we saw. I’m not sure if the animals were enlarged or actual size. Also most of the animals there seemed to be adults. Finally we reached the hope diamond and it was the most outstanding diamond I have ever seen! I liked how the top of the diamond was blue and the bottom seemed to be the average color of silver. We had a lot of fun today and can’t wait till the next museum!

I went to the museum of natural science today. It had animals, it had diamonds and you could pick up like a phone and like a voice teaches about a subject that you pick. We also got to watch a 4D movie! It was pretty awesome. Yesterday was actually not as good as I expected it to be, it was good but not as good because it was a super long bus ride. It was actually pretty amazing seeing the Monuments and the beautiful view. Finally we got to the Radisson hotel. The only bad thing about the hotel was getting the luggage in are rooms, and I only got 4 hours of sleep. Other than that every thing was pretty good and I listened to Michael Jackson!
