Our sixth grade classrooms are blossoming with poetry. Students have been reading poetry and analyzing it for theme, mood, message, sound, and author’s craft. As they are pouring through the poetry books that fill our shelves they are learning about their own taste in poetry.  As we continue our work with this unit, students will be publishing several of their own original poems. Students will consider which author’s tools to use in their own poems to achieve the meaning and sound they wish to create. Your child is a poet, and before this unit, he or she didn’t even know it!
