Due to Adjudication and the fact that I took one day to give the prompt, I have changed the due date of the writing piece.  You should be making final revisions and edits at this point. Please be sure to use your checklist so that you know what I will be grading.

Also I gave out the ”Priceless punctuation’ worksheet. It is due on Monday beginning of class (Group 4  at the end of class)

Your final draft (fd)  writing piece is due Tuesday 5/15 at the end of class.  you will have computers available on Monday and Tuesday. Come prepared with an SSR book if you have finished everything.  Please fill out your part of the checklist and turn it in on Tuesday, 5/15  at the end of class.

As you know we have started Writing workshop. In the last few days I have asked you to free write or brainstorm to generate ideas for your writing piece (can be short story, poetry or profile of a famous person.) Most of you have started on a draft or have enough ideas to get started on Monday. Those of you who have not yet done anything on paper need to do this over the weekend.  Please come on Monday with a page of free writing or the beginning of a draft.

We will be drafting and conferencing next week.

Please read and be sure that Responses #1-5 are complete and shared with me.  They are now overdue.

By Monday 4/2 you need to have finished reading your book and finished and shared the Dialogue Journal Activity on googledocs.

Final projects will be shared on Wed. 4/4 so be ready for that.

Those who have read at least 60% of your book and have completed the first 5 responses are all set, although you should read a little bit.   Anyone who hasn’t, should have written a plan in their agenda or on a piece of papaer saying what they will do each day to get caught up. Please stick to the plan you made.

Please read and complete responses 1-5.  By tomorrow at the end of class you should have read a minimum of 60% of your book and complete responses 1-5.  All assignments are available on the page on my website and on googledocs.  Please add Responses 3 and 4 to your googledoc containing Responses 1 and 2.  response 5 is on a separate googledoc that has already been share with you.

If you spoke to me in class today about your INABILITY to meet this deadline (Which you should have done already) you should have made a plan that shows how you will complete the work in a timely manner.  IF you are not able to meet the deadline and you did not see me today,  you need to see me ASAP tomorrow in class.  (Some people have legitimate reasons why they have not finished – a very long book, having switched books.)

You should all have chosen your books for workshop. Please read for at least 20 minutes (as you know you can always do more) each night this week.  Then complete Reading response 1 tonight and complete reading response #2 tomorrow night.

The reading responses are available on googledocs or you can write them out on your own paper.  I also have hard copies in the classroom.

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder to those who still have not handed in there mini-prompt on whether or not students should be able to wear headphones during workshop is due tomorrow.  I will be after school Tuesday 3/13 and Thursday 3/15 for anyone who needs to work on it or other work that is due.
By tomorrow you will all have chosen a book for our next workshop.  Homework is to read each night and make sure any assigned exit slips have been completed.

Please be sure you have finished your persuasive writing piece on the issue of listening to music through headphones during workshop.  It was due today for Groups 2 and 3 and is due tomorrow for groups 1 and 4.

Groups 2 and 3 please finish your letter to me about listening to music via headphones during workshop.  It is worth 40 points and it is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

I plan to be after school tomorrow for anyone who needs extra help or time to complete missing assignments.

Tomorrow we will have the first round of debates. Be sure your notes are complete. Rehearse out loud what you will say during the debate. It will boost your confidence and enable you to be more forceful and dramatic.  This is especially important for staters who will make the opening and closing statements. Teams that do not debate tomorrow will debate on Monday.

For tonight please go on your debate team’s planning doc and add details and main points.  You have only tomorrow for more planning and practicing what you will say.  We will run the first round of debates this  Friday.

Also, tomorrow after school is the last opportunity to make up the semi-colon/colon quiz if you got below 80%. You need to do a little studying and then retake the quiz.
