About me
Hi there,
A little about me
- love to read and write- and I can’t wait to read your writing and talk to you about what you are reading.
- like adventure.
-sometimes don’t read long books because I get so involved that I don’t do anything but read and my family goes hungry!
- working over the past few years on a book length memoir about a sailing trip I took with my family in 2002. I took a year off from teaching so we could sail to the Bahamas and back. I took the picture hanging in the front of the classroom on our boat that year. My, daughter, Adrienne, was in eighth grade at the time and I ‘boat schooled’ her. That was my first year teaching eighth grade!
-This summer – traveled to Ghost Ranch in New Mexico to a writing conference to learn more about how to write my book.

- have taught in Stonington for a long time,(really long) as music teacher at Deans Mill School-had Mrs. Gilbert at Mystic Middle, Mr. Cawley’s brothers and his sister, and Mrs. Brown, who works in Central Office in my classes.
-spent five weeks on the boat this summer with my husband.
- A few years ago we went t0 Grand Canyon…
- and went down inside on mules (picture taken by me from the back of my mule – temperature was 110 degrees Farenheit.)
- I once visited Los Angeles,- happened onto a movie opening – the red carpet and limos- saw Seth Rogen, Kanye West, Daniel Craig, Jon Voight, Jim Carrey, and Jenny McCarthy.
Anyway, I am excited to have you in my classes and can’t wait to hear more about you. Please leave a comment and a question if you have one.

Wow. You really like to travel. I don’t really travel as much as you do!! The last vacation I went on was to Florida and my family and I went to Disney with another family that we are really good friends with. I love going to Disney. My mom tries to get us to go at least one a year. A couple years back, she planned a 2 vacations to Disney in one year! The farthest place I’ve been was in the bahamas and we stayed at the really cool place called Atlantis. It is filled with family fun things to do. And I love the beaches down in the bahamas because the sand is white and thats my ideal beach. the water is soooo clear and like blue. its kinda weird. i went snorkeling and we saw so many tropical fish. my dad my cousin and i tryed feeding hot dogs to some of the fish. when we were out of hot dog it was trouble because they thought our fingers were the hot dogs and they were biting our fingers and toes and we had to swim back to shore as fast as we could. we were bleeding really bad. that was my favorite vacation and probably the funniest too! what was your favorite vacation?

it’s really cool that you got to ride the mules. it looks like- from so many pictures- that you were traveling around the world.
And 260 pages, that got to take a long time to write. How many books have you written so far.

I think it is so cool that you took a year off teaching so that you could sail to the bahamas and that your writting a book! It’s also really cool that you got to see all those celebrities! I would have been scared to ride a mule on a ledge like that! But it must have been fun.

I used to travel somewhere new every year with my family and a few other close friends of ours. Over the years we traveled to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico (2x), Dominican Republic, and Disney World
. Those pictures you took look like ones you would pay for and have framed and hung up. How long did it take you to get to the Bahamas? Did you get tired of living on a boat for so long??? Also, what is your book about and how long did it take you to write it?
… and Chris says “Hi”

youve been a lot of places! also what is their to do in the grand cayonn? is it really deep?
September 7th, 2011 at 8:55 pm
I like that you love adventure because when i get older i want to travel to many different places. But I don’t think that it would be by a sail boat because i don’t think i could take being on a boat for a very long period of time. I think that it is cool that you sailed all the way to the Bahamas. Did you experience any rough waters? I think that it is cool that you got to see all of those stars because i would like to see famouse people too one day. Maybe at the VMA’s because I hope to go there one year.
September 7th, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Wow Mrs. Bitting it sounds like you really like to travel to lots of places. I went to maine two years ago. It was really fun I got to drive snowmobiles all over the trails up there. When I was up there I also drove around and looked at some of the cool snow capped mountains.
Last year I went to the bahamas and stayed in a hotel at Atlantis. It was the best vacation I had ever been on. I was amazed by how blue the water was. It was crystal blue and seemed to be transparent. When I was swimming there I even saw a octopus.
September 7th, 2011 at 7:45 pm
The pictures you took of all those places look so cool. What kind of things did you do while you were in the bahamas? I went on a cruise to the bahamas when i was 7and i loved it there. I was also wondering if boat schooling your daughter was a lot different than teaching a classroom.
September 7th, 2011 at 7:43 pm
writing a book must be amazing, to create a story that you have either had a dream or fantasy about. it must be fun to create anything silly or wierd. do you plan to write other books in the future?
September 7th, 2011 at 7:39 pm
Do you mention all places you travel to in your memoir? And have you finished it yet? It sounds great! I absolutely love the grand canyon, I went there before moving back to Connecticut form Californi about three years ago. Maybe four. We were going to hike down but there was a lot of bees and I was afraid of them. But it was still beautiful there!

Have you ever been out of the country? if so where to? I have been to Australia before. You seem like the type of persons who loves adventures and not just vacations in the sun on the beach. How long did it take you to travel down to the bahamas? how did you know where to go? That must of been so much fun! You also seem like a professional photographer! I also visited Los Angeles this summer but sadly we didn’t see anybody famous but we did see a lot of nice looking cars everywhere!!!!! I look forward to learning more about you this year!!!
September 7th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Tell her Hi for me – and Josh too.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:00 pm
Wow that probably would take me a lifetime to make a book that is that long. You also have to come up with a bunch of ideas and explain everything.
September 7th, 2011 at 5:57 pm
I love all of the pictures that you have showing all of the different places you have been. They look like a pro took them. Is it hard to get those amazing pictures becase it looks like it’s a once in a life time experience.
Do you have a favorite book series or a favorite author? I don’t realy have a favorite author or book series but i do like Avi.
My grandpa loves to read and write so every time we see him, he has a new book that he thinks we will like. When we saw him durring christmas time he brought me How to Kill a Mockingbird. I read it and I thought that it was really interesting.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:00 pm
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books of all time. It treats a complicated subject in an intriguing way.
September 7th, 2011 at 5:54 pm
All these place you went to seemed fun. How long did it take to get to the bahamas? It is cool that you are writing a book, what is it called and what is it about?
September 7th, 2011 at 5:49 pm
My sister Megan and brother Josh said that you have been working on your book when they had you as a teacher. Is it the same book or have you written other books?
September 7th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
Yes, It is the same book. It takes a long time! I am on the next draft now. It is 260 pages long.
